Why are you introducing a new bus network?

    Public Transport Victoria (PTV) and the Victorian Government identified there was a need for a new and improved bus network in the growth regional city of Ballarat that linked residents’ to train services and other key destinations in the area. 

    What can my feedback influence?

    We will consider route suggestions and would like to have feedback on the destinations and connections most important to you – whether it is between train and bus or between two bus routes, or key destinations. 

    What are the benefits in the proposed new bus network

    The proposed new network offers:

    ·There will be improved frequency on many routes.

    ·Better access to Federation University Mount Helen campus.

    ·Better coordination with trains.  Leave the car at home if travelling to Melbourne.

    ·Improved directness to get you to your destination faster.

    ·All buses will operate via Ballarat Station.

    ·Better services for new housing developments at Alfredton and Brown Hill.

    ·A new route numbering system for regional Victoria – unique route numbers to make finding your service on the PTV Journey Planner and PTV app faster and simpler.

    ·Working towards the City of Ballarat’s ’10 Minute City’ concept of ‘transitioning towards a more sustainable transport network’.

    What key destinations will the new network service?

    The proposed new network will service:

    ·Ballarat Railway Station

    ·Ballarat CBD including Sturt Street Strip

    ·Central Square Shopping Centre

    ·Ballarat Base Hospital

    ·Federation University, Mount Helen Campus

    ·Wendouree Shopping Centre

    ·Creswick Town Centre

    Who will benefit from the proposed network?

    The proposed network has been designed to benefit:

    ·Ballarat broader community by providing more direct and frequent services to central Ballarat

    ·Commuters wishing to connect with train services

    ·Federation University students who will have better access to a bus service from Ballarat Station to the University

    ·Tourists coming from Melbourne who want to visit attractions such as Sovereign Hill and the Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka

    How can people provide feedback on the proposed plan?

    The community can provide feedback at the communication consultation sessions or the Get Involved online hub hosted on the PTV website.

    Why are there fewer routes in the proposed new network?

    The new network would introduce 15 new routes replacing the current 19 routes however there will be improved frequency on most routes with services operating every 30 minutes. The new network will provide faster and more direct services allowing for better connections with trains.
